| A news item caught
my attention, through which I would like to explain the power of belief.
Taslima Nasreen , a writer from Bangladesh , has been asked to leave west
Bengal government after a protest in Kolkatta by Muslims .
She moved to another state , Rajasthan , and even BJP government in that
state doesn’t want her . She has been moved to New Delhi , so far no one is
ready to touch her .
Why she is untouchable?
She wrote a book, which offended the sensibilities of believers (read
Muslims).
Muslim fundamentalists in Bangladesh had issued death threats to Taslima for
allegedly hurting religious sentiments through her writings after which she
left the country and went into a self-imposed exile abroad. Taslima fled
Bangladesh in 1994 after huge street protests by demonstrators who decried
her writings as blasphemous and demanded her “execution”. She took up
residence in Kolkata in 2004 after spending years in Europe and US.
Right or wrong BUT never question the belief of people.
She is either the bravest or most foolish person I've ever met," a friend of
Nasreen's is quoted as saying in a newspaper.
My idea here is just to convey
1. The power of belief, imaging yourself in her position to realize it
2. The belief is more powerful then emotion and it triggers the emotions (in
the above case, belief triggered the negative emotion of hatred in a
community). |
