Mind's Nature PDF Print E-mail

Let us pay a little attention towards the mind on which we have great hopes for success. If we look closely, we will discover that our conscious mind make us do various types of petty activities.

Once a young man of about 22 years was sitting quietly and comfortably in a garden. At that moment, one of his friends came there and said, "your wife has gone out to watch a movie with someone else and you are sitting here quietly." The man became very angry and said that he would not spare the woman, and kill her. Saying so, he set out with his friend. He had hardly walked a little when he suddenly remembered that he was still unmarried. This is our mind. We will laugh at the young man because we could easily observe his follies, but we never seem to observe our own follies.

Our mind makes us do many types of such works throughout the day. But let us think as to why such a thing happened with the young man. The reason for this is that the young man had heard many such stories and they were recorded in his memory. Moreover, he had also seen many movies where there was a similar story and they had left a deep impact on his mind. All our needless information, which we memorize, later makes us do such foolish acts.

Once there were two very good friends. One of them was poor while the other one was rich. Both of them had studied together. One day, the poor man suddenly needed a scooter as he was expecting some guests. He began to think from whom could he borrow the scooter. Then, he suddenly remembered that his friend had a scooter and he could borrow the scooter from him. With these thoughts in mind, he set out towards his friend's house. On the way, a thought suddenly struck his mind as to what would happen if his friend refused. Then he had another thought that as he was his fast friend, he would never refuse. Moreover he had never asked for anything from him till now. And he wanted the scooter only for a day. So he would definitely not refuse.

But, Mind is after all Mind. He once again got a thought that he could surely refuse to let him borrow the scooter. He is not as good as he looks. And all the rich people are the same. After walking a few steps, he again thought that his friend would find some or the other excuse if he did not want to lend him the scooter. He would borrow the scooter come what may. After some time, he again got a thought that his friend would say that the scooter is punctured but he would say that he would get it mended. Later another thought struck him that his friend would refuse by saying that he also had some guests and it would be difficult for him to lend the scooter.

With all these thoughts in mind, he became very angry and began to curse his friend. Soon he reached his friend’s house and rung the bell. The friend opened the door. As he was very angry, he told his friend to go to hell. He said, " I have seen enough of rich people. I could never imagine that you would do this to me. Today onwards you are no longer my friend". Saying this, he left the place. His friend was left speechless. He kept on asking as to what was the matter. He was unable to understand anything. Such is our Mind. We work according to our mind and our mind catches many thoughts on its own. It is such thoughts that are the main reasons for spoiling our relations with our friends and neighbors. What happened? Why did it happen? Nobody is able to understand this.

I am telling you all these stories because we have to first understand one thing that we all are sick and only the sick people need medicines. And man never takes any medicine till he comes to know that he is sick. So, I want you all to clearly understand that we all are sick.

We request our mind to allow us to study as our exams are fast approaching, but our mind says that an interesting cricket match is being shown, just watch it for sometime. When we are in Delhi, our mind takes us to Calcutta, and when we are in Calcutta, it takes us to Delhi. Mind would prove to be a very useful device if we have the switch to control it in our hands. If man wants to use his mind effectively, then he has to gain total control over his mind. But in reality, it is just the opposite with the mind controlling us.

If we observe our life, then we will find that we pick up a lot of fights after carefully thinking or as our mind makes us to do so. We can definitely say that our mind incites us to pick up a lot of fights and makes us spend the rest of our life with bitter memories.
