Memory is a separate faculty. For the sake
of discussion let call, subconscious mind is termed. Memory. Much of your
subconscious ness consists of submerged experiences, memories thrown into
the background but recoverable. The memory is like a calm lake and thoughts
are like waves upon the surface of this lake and name and form are the
normal ways in which these waves rise. No wave can rise without name and
form.
Ninety per cent of the mental activities take place in the subconscious
mind. Messages, when ready, come out like a flash from the subconscious mind
to the surface of the conscious mind through the trapdoor in the
subconscious mind.
We can assume that human mind works like a computer. Lets see how a computer
works, before proceeding further
A computer performs its function in tree steps
Input ---------------process ---------output
Input – every time you want the computer to do something, you have to tell
the computer what to do. The required information or data and the
instructions about what to do, are the INPUT to the computer.
Process – The process that the computer does on the input data, goes on in
the main part of the computer called central processing unit (CPU) .It has
two main areas –the memory and the work area.
Output –The result obtained by the computer is the OUTPUT.
Primary Memory – Suppose you feed the data and a set of 10 instructions to
the computer. It carries out the instructions one by one on the data and
gives you the result .To do this computer must ‘remember’ the 10
instructions and the order in which they should be carried out.
The same way we remember words, faces, names or whatever we read because we
have a memory. The memory is the power to remember. A computer also has a
memory. It can remember data and instructions. It keeps them in its memory.
The memory of a computer works on electricity.
It is lost when the computer is switched off .For this reason it is called
temporary memory or primary memory.

Secondary memory –storage device
Suppose you make a long program for doing something and type it into the
computer. It goes into the primary memory. Once the computer is switched
off, the program is lost. The next time you want to use the same program,
you will have to type it again. This is waste of time and effort. There
should be therefore be a devices in the computer where programs and data can
be stored permanently. Such devices are called storage devices.
Hard Disk – this is the storage device that is built as part of a computer.
It has a very large storage capacity. Other examples are CD-ROM or Floppy
disk
What goes on inside a computer?
The information and instructions received by the computer as input are kept
in its memory. When you ask the computer to do a particular job, it first
searches its memory for the set of instructions on how to do the job. (Soft
wares)
After finding the set of instructions, it starts from the first instruction
and does exactly what the instruction says. It then moves to the second
instruction and so on till it reaches the last instruction in the set. It
then produces the result called the output.
If there is any mistake in the program, the computer display an error
message and stop there. What’s the point? No I am not a computer expert and
picked up this above information from the textbook of my son who is in
fourth grade. The information is useful example of what I want to say?
Incase of human beings
Input is our FIVE SENSES with the help of which we give instructions to our
mind
Mind (Hard Disk) like computer has two portions
Primary memory or conscious mind ( I am calling it thought level in this
book)
Secondary memory or subconscious mind
Output –is our response to the input (five senses instructions) and
processor (software’s in our unconscious mind).
So if the input (outside situations in life) is same in case of two persons
there responses (output) could be different because of different software
(programming in subconscious minds of two persons).
We keep on storing information , experiences as we grow up .
Remember –when we are born, we have no thoughts or memory. We are just like
a new computer with blank hard disc and no pre loaded software’s.
In case of a computer , we load many software before operating it.
In case of human beings , we fill up our memory gradually from childhood
till we die .
We learn by reading , listening , watching , experiencing , through
education and gradually we store information in our memory .
In other words , thought and memory are inter connected and works as a
housing .
Now, Can I say that memory is the fountainhead instead of thought
That alters our equation
