| Trust is an example
of positive belief. Fundamentally, trust is one of the keys - if not the key
foundation - any relationship will be built on.
The same is true if you wish to be successful
in business, your career, or life in general. Whether it is with your
partner, your children, your staff, your manager or other key stakeholders,
the ability to create and maintain TRUST is vital.
Remember the movie OMKARA, an adaptation of
Shakespeare's OTHELLO
On surface, OMKARA is Shakespeare's OTHELLO,
but the adaptation is very Indian. Human traits like trust, doubt or
suspicion and jealousy can be identified the world over and that's what
OMKARA highlights.
The movie starts with, Omkara's love and
trust for Dolly, Dolly's unquestioning love and trust for Omi, Langda's
loyalty and trust for Omi, Kesu's unswerving devotion and trust to Omi.
Omkara or Omi [Ajay Devgan] is a gifted
chieftain who heads a gang of outlaws, which include the crafty Langda Tyagi
[Saif Ali Khan] and the dynamic Kesu [Vivek Oberoi] amongst his chief
cohorts.
The story takes a turn, when Omi appoints
Kesu and not Langda as his chief lieutenant.
He breaks the trust (read belief) of Langda ,
which triggers the jealousy ( read negative emotion )
Using petty insinuations and lies, Langda
keeps poisoning and eventually creates a element of doubt in Omi's mind till
one day it snaps and Omi goes about tearing up his own safe and secure
world.
The point is , the trust (belief) in each
other is a powerful force and once that trust (belief) is broken – it
triggers the negative emotions , which pollutes the thought level and
destroys everything
Trust enables relationships to develop and
flourish. When trust erodes, the relationship deteriorates. Doubts, which
can creep into our thinking about the behaviour of the other person, can act
like a poison and a cancer, quickly spreading to sabotage the relationship.
Mistrust has a devastating impact on relationships and on the types and
quality of conversations that will occur.
All of us, at one stage or other, have
experienced a situation in which we have found ourself not trusting another
person. This could have been someone we have just met and almost immediately
have not felt comfortable with them. Expressions like "Wouldn't trust
him/her as far as 1 could kick them" or "Wouldn't touch him/her with a forty
foot barge pole" express this lack of trust
Unfortunately though, occasionally not
trusting someone else also includes those we have known for a while. Doubts
begin to creep into our thinking about their motivation and behaviour, and
these can begin to have a major impact on the relationship, for our
behaviour in relation to the other person will begin to be different
